Wins List

In regards to a “Wins List” I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of it before, it’s a pretty simple technique that you can do. It will help you build your confidence. A wins list is a list that we create of wins that we’ve had in our lives. They can be big; they can be small. The idea here is that when you create a wins list, you can refer back to that list when you are not feeling so confident.

We all have those times when we do not feel so confident. Or when we feel we are lacking confidence we can forget all of the things that we’ve done and how far we’ve come sometimes. It could be that you’re so busy going from one thing to the next that you don’t stop and acknowledge that you have built your confidence.

You are doing all of these great things because you’re just working so hard you focus on the work and you don’t take time to stop and celebrate. There are reasons why there are graduations and celebrations! And parties for certain things like retirements and birthdays— to celebrate a person.

If someone gets a new job, or a marriage, or even if someone loses weight they might have a celebration they reached their goal. There’s a reason why we celebrate! Because it feels good and it also encourages us. It gives us a positive relationship to establishing and achieving goals.

So we want to have a positive relationship with building confidence. And like we talked about in episode 28 and in the first episode of this podcast, confidence is not something that you obtain once you establish your goal or once you achieve your goal. Confidence is something that you obtain while you’re working towards your goal, or while you’re working towards getting something that you want.

My Wins List

You build that confidence, and while we’re building that confidence we can create this wins list. It will help us to acknowledge that we are doing better than we most likely think. For instance, I am doing an 8 week high intensity workout program. This is my second time doing this program. It is exhausting, and it is very challenging.

However, I really like the results. That’s what keeps me going. So I continue to do this workout program. It’s tough. So I keep a list of all of the exercises and the days that I do them. I have it all organized on my computer, and then when I’m working out I have it up on my computer. I will write my weights for each day, and that to me is a wins list. Because I see wow like I’ve been doing this since February and this is week 5 already, I’m doing so great!

And it reminds me of all of the other weeks that I’ve been doing this. Because when I wake up in the morning, I’m going to be honest, I mean I do not really working out. People see me and they know I like to go to the gym they think I love working out. There are times when I do not feel like it.

However I go because I know that I will appreciate the results. Also I know that I’m doing it for me so I want to keep doing it. It’s good for my body, it keeps me healthy. And just simply keeping a list of the days that I work out is a wins list for me.

Creating Your Wins List

A wins list does not have to be a list that says “wins list” on the top and then you have like everything that you’ve done. However, it could also be that as well. You could literally just have a list of everything that you’ve done so far in your life. You can go back as far as you want, and you can have that on your list.

Then when you are not feeling so hot—you’re not feeling so great about yourself—you can look at this list and you can remind yourself. “Wow I did all of these things! I’m not feeling so confident now but my feelings are not reality. Look at all that I have done. Look at how far that I’ve come!”

So with any kind of goal, even if you’re just opening a new business or something and you’re steadily building content and building repour. And you’re getting clients that you’re getting customers. You might feel like you’re not growing quickly enough. But if you look back and see where you were a year ago from now, you’ll probably be shocked by all of the progress that you made.

Wins List for Work

This is also something that I would highly recommend that you do for your career. At the end of each week, on a Fri—on Fridays, I write down the things that I’ve done for the week. Whether it was part of my responsibilities or not. I write my wins list and I will send that email to myself with the same subject every single Friday.

I send it to myself and then when I do quarterly reviews I have all of these things that I’ve done. And even though it’s only—it’s a quarter—even though it’s only been three months since I’ve done something, I still will forget that I’ve done something like a month ago. And then I’ll read this wins list, I’ll be like “wow, I did a lot!”

I will surprise myself. I’m not kidding, you will surprise yourself! And if you’re trying to lose weight you can write down a time that you did not succumb to a craving. Or you could even write down a time that you allowed yourself to have a cheat meal and didn’t feel guilty about it—working through not having that rigid restriction.

If you’re looking for a job, you can write all of the jobs that you applied for. I understand it might not feel like a win if you’re not getting calls for interviews. However, that’s still a win because it shows that you are continuing to keep going with your goal! And if you keep and stick with it you, will obtain it. You will achieve it!

Taking a Step Back

So that’s why it’s so important to have this list. The list will force us to take a step back and to acknowledge all that we’ve done and how far we’ve come. Because anything with self-empowerment, with confidence building, with betterment, with personal development, it all gradually happens.

It’s not that you work towards it for a week and then you fall asleep one day you wake up the next day and then you automatically have it. It gradually happens. And you might not notice the changes because you’re in the middle of it.

Think of it like if you see someone’s kid—you haven’t seen them in a while. And you see them, you look, “wow they really grew”! And the person says yeah I don’t really tell because I see them every day. But you’re like, “they’re completely different!”

It’s because you don’t see them every day. So when you do see them you notice the difference. But with yourself, you’re with yourself, you’re in your own mind every single day. So you might not notice these small wins unless you consciously focus on them. And that is what a win list is for.

Write Your Wins List!

So you can write things out. You can do a weekly wins list. You can do it daily, you can consider it your daily—right before you go to sleep how people have like gratitude— you can think of what you’re for. Like your progress when you’re lying in bed. You can think, “What am I grateful for today? What did I do today?”

And that doesn’t mean that you have to be active and productive every day. You could literally be grateful for the fact that you took time to relax and not put pressure on yourself.

I hope that you create a wins list. Especially with work, it will really help you with your career. It has helped me with my career exponentially. Especially whenever I ask for promotions and raises, I have like lists of all the stuff that I’ve done.

I love it, and it really, this is going to help improve your confidence a lot! And with that we’re going to end with our I affirming statements. Are you ready?

I can,

I am,

I will.

Have a great day.
